Are you ready to start your career?

How To Get Started

Are you ready to start your career with the experts that have tools you need to succeed in today’s real estate market. To get you started, we have outlined the key steps needed to earn your real estate license. First, you need to be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate or equivalent and have a U.S. Social Security number.

If you meet those basic requirements, you’re ready for the next five steps.

Get Started in 5 Steps

Step 1 – Take the Pre-license Course

To begin the journey of becoming a real estate agent in Florida, the first step is to register for and complete the state-required 63-hour Pre-License class with a school approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission.

Step 2 – Get Fingerprints & Apply

To obtain a license, get your fingerprints scanned by a state-approved vendor for a background check. Then, complete the license application (RE-1) on MyFloridaLicense.com and pay the application fee. REAL TIP: The Pearson VUE company will notify you by email when your application has been approved (generally takes 10 to 30 days).

Step 3: Take & Pass the Exam

After your application has been approved by the state and you’ve passed the pre-license class, watch your email for a notification from Pearson VUE with the subject line “Authorization to Test” letting you know that you are eligible to take the test. REAL TIP: You must pass the exam with a score of at least 75 percent.

Step 4: Affiliate with a broker:

Congratulations on finishing all the pre-license requirements! Now is the perfect time to start interviewing potential brokerages to find the best fit for you. REAL TIP: Your real estate license is not technically active until you are affiliated with a licensed broker.

Step 5: Join a local REALTOR® Association/Board:

Joining a local association, such as the Osceola County Association of REALTORS®, gives you access to professional development, advocacy, networking, and support as you start your career. By joining, you will be a REALTOR® and a member of the Florida Realtors state association and the National Association of Realtors.
